Criteria for Consideration

The WOA Meritorious Service Award is designed to honor officials for their contributions through the officiating of athletic events.  


In order to be qualified for this award, an official must meet the following three requirements:

            1.         Active at least fifteen (15) years as a registered official.

            2.         Elected officer in a local Association/Board.

            3.         WIAA Regional/State Tournament Assignment(s).


Other criteria that should be used by local association and boards in recommending recipients for this award is as follows:

            1.         Be strongly recommended by the local association or board.

            2.         Considered a “Top Official” in his / her respective area.

            3.         Made contributions to the local.

            4.         Admired by his / her peers for citizenship and character.

            5.         Proper interpretation of rules and administration.

            6.         Professional attitude and enthusiasm.

            7.         Retirement not a prerequisite.
